FAQs
What type of wood is teak?
Teak, also known as Tectona grandis, is a dense and close-grained hardwood high in natural oils and rubber that give it strength and durability. This makes our teak garden furniture virtually impervious to the effects of rain, salt, sun or snow and very resistant to rotting.
Our teak is sustainably and responsibly sourced from the plantations of Perum Perhutani on the island of Java. The plantation is government-owned and strictly regulated; it operates a comprehensive, sustainable replanting program. The legality of our teak outdoor furniture is assured through Indonesia’s national timber legality assurance system (SVLK) and FLEGT licensing scheme. FLEGT-licensed timber is considered to fully comply with the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR). EUTR 995/2010 prohibits illegally harvested timber and timber-based products from being placed onto European markets.

How do I care for my teak outdoor furniture?
To care for your teak outdoor furniture, it should be cleaned at least once a year to remove the build-up of dirt, grime, moss, bird droppings and so on. This can be done simply through a good scrub with soapy water, and we also sell a Teak Cleaner that can brighten your teak garden furniture to resemble its original finish.
Teak is very low maintenance as it is able to care for itself due to the natural oils present within. If you are looking to preserve the new-teak colour you can treat it with our Teak Protector.
If your teak outdoor furniture is exposed to food and drink we also offer a Teak Shield to add a protective barrier to stop stains such as oil, coffee or wine from seeping into your teak. Our dual-purpose Shield also deters mould & mildew growth on weathering teak.
For more information, please view our Caring for Teak page.

How long will my teak garden furniture last?
Teak is a great choice for outdoor garden furniture as it is considered to be one of the strongest woods in the world, ideal for making garden furniture to last.
A dense grain and a high natural oil content make teak exceptionally strong and durable to give it an impressive lifespan so you can expect your teak furniture to last 50-70 years, perhaps even longer with the proper care and the right environment. Some of Britain’s oldest teak park benches have been around for a century! Teak garden furniture can withstand all weather extremes, even without the use of treatments and preservatives, and will weather beautifully over time.

What is meant by ‘Pre-Order’?
Pre-ordering means ordering an item that is currently not in stock.
The advantage of pre-ordering, is that the item is ‘ring-fenced’ for delivery to yourself as soon as it comes in stock.
If a product is temporarily out-of-stock, it will be stated clearly, as the usual ‘Add to Basket’ button will be replaced by a ‘Pre-Order’ button.
Additionally, once the item has been selected, a date displayed indicates when the item is scheduled to arrive into our warehouse.
We deliver throughout the country, over a 2-week cycle, therefore, depending on your delivery postcode, you should receive your order between 1 to 14 days from the scheduled date.
Why is there a crack in my teak?
As a hygroscopic material, teak can sometimes gain small splits or cracks, also known as checks or end-grain checking, from changes in humidity and temperature. This is a naturally occurring process that is more common amongst heavier components and at the end-grain, and is a part of the patina of weathering.
Rest assured, teak is an exceptionally strong substance and so this checking will not ordinarily affect the structural integrity of your furniture.
How do I remove the pre-drilled teak stopper in the centre of my table?
The majority of our dining tables come with a pre-drilled hole to allow the use of a parasol through the centre of the table. The teak stopper is designed to sit flush to the rest of the table top so that it is less noticeable. To remove the stopper from the table top you must gently tap from underneath the table top so that the stopper will pop out without causing any splintering.
